As mentioned in this post, I'm looking at the types of kimonos in the Edo Period. I did some quick drawings of the furisode, kosode and the burial kimono.

I also looked into the tied up hairstyles from both the working class and samurai class.
For this project, I want to give a traditional feel to my 3D character and I decided that I wanted to do all my textures by hand. I've never used watercolours before or own any so I went out and bought myself a set so I could practise with. These are quite messy and I have a lot more practising to do, but I wanted to give myself feel for what I need to be doing for my textures later on.
Again this week I used dyes and coloured asatate, but painted out the background with black acrylic. Overall I'm happy with the "cosmic" feel of the piece.
Here's my test all done, which I'm very happy with. This is my first time animating a character so it was a lot of fun. There's a few in between frames I need to tweak after discussing it with Meg. Overall I think it was a decent first attempt!
Focused on negative space for this session. Also did an exercise where we couldn't take our hand of the paper so it was a continuous line (pic.4 left drawing)
Worked from this structure. I quickly sketched out the basic shape and then moved onto using the paint. I tried to make it as interesting as possible, I would let the colours bleed to blend and create some shading. Afterwards I just let the paint run. I'm quite please with the result:
